Stone Oak was started in the 1980’s and is located north of 1604 and west of 281. Developers decided to take a chance to build a community with multiple land uses. Originally, it was a bedroom community considered far from the center of town. During the financial crisis, building came to a stop until 1992. Then voila, the area grew and grew until what it is today: restaurants, shops and lots of subdivisions, many are gated.
Subdivisions include a whopping 33 different HOAs and neighborhoods including Stone Oak, Sonterra, La Sonterra, Arrowhead and Champions Ridge. Consequently, there are lots of restaurants, retail establishments and businesses and entertainment venues.
There is a robust medical center, medical offices and several hospitals there as well including Baptist Children's, North Central and Methodist Stone Oak Hospitals.
The Club at Sonterra has a championship golf course, a driving range, tennis courts and a wellness center. They offer four membership levels including a social membership.
There were about 100 homes for sale in the Stone Oak area ranging in price from $215,000 to $1,950,000 in September of 2020. The average priced home in Stone Oak is about $579,000 while the San Antonio average is right at $310,000.
