Well at least you’ll find a lots of events to attend and places to go for July 4th in San Antonio on this post – from watching fireworks, art shows, strolling down our wonderful River Walk or doing something athletic. Here’s a brief rundown of July 4th Events in San Antonio.
Official City of San Antonio Fourth of July Celebration
Start off at Woodlawn Lake for the “Official City of San Antonio Fourth of July Celebration“. There are live music events going on including The US Air Force Band of The West. There will be workshops inside the Family Pavilion and even Curious George may make a debut. The festivities start at 11 AM and don’t forget about the fireworks display.
SARR Freedom Day Runs
Want to start off the day with some exercise? How about the SARR Freedom Day Runs at Mission County Park starting at 7:30 AM. You’ll have a choice of a half mile run – great for the kiddos, a two-mile fun run or walk and the more serious athletes can do a four-mile run – but save energy for other July 4th festivities. The event is hosted by the San Antonio Road Runners (clever, huh?). There’s even a $100 HEB prize for the best All American Super Hero themed costume.
Independence Day at The Alamo
Remember The Alamo? Well, you can’t forget it this Fourth of July as there are special living history demonstrations going from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Plus you can take pictures with the “reenactors”. And get FREE paletas – now that sounds yummy. This is entertainment for the whole family – and if you’ve never been to the Alamo, it’s a holiday – I imagine free parking is available.
Freedom Fest at the Historic Market Square
Been to the Historic Market Square lately? Well how about going on down there on the 4th? You’ll find working artists, lots of food vendors and live music. Can’t make it on the 4th? Nothing to worry about as the event is going on through the 7th.
The Great American Picnic at the Pearl
The Great American Picnic is going on at the Pearl from noon to 8 PM – and you can buy your choice of picnic grub from one of the vendors at The Bottling Department! By the way, I’ve eaten there a few times and it was pretty darn good! There will be live music in the evening.
Talk to artisans about their craft and look at their wares at the artisan show from 11 AM to 11 PM. It’s at the River Walk Extension close to San Antonio Chamber of Commerce building. Shop for your home, wardrobe or garden.
The Leon Valley July 4th Parade and Festival
Head on over to Raymond Rimkus Park for the July 4th Parade and Festival. The park is located at 6440 Evers Rd and Leon Valley and they’ll be running shuttles. The Pioneer 5K Walk/Run starts at 8 AM and the parade gets underway at 10 AM. There are all day events and even fireworks at dusk. Here’s a flyer you can download with information.
July 4th Fireworks in Boerne
Sponsored by the Boerne Fire Department, the fireworks show is at City Park located at 106 City Park Rd. in Boerne. Get there early to get a prime spot and see a spectacular show.
Old Time Patriotic Parade and Program
The Sophienburg Museum, the City of New Braunfels and the Parks and Recreation Department in New Braunfels are sponsoring the olt-time parade and the program that follows the parade. All entries into the parade must have a patriotic theme. Here’s a sample of last year’s parade in four minutes – I promise. https://youtu.be/sNSJexcvxW4 The parade starts at 9:15 AM.
July 4th Luminarias
Now this sounds interesting – what’s not to like about going to see the River Walk lit up with luminarias? Going on from 8:30 PM to 12 PM, the bridges and banks at the San Antonio River Walk be lit up with a patriotic theme of red, white and blue luminarias. How cool is that?
If you don’t find something you’d like to do, not to worry. There are even more San Antonio 4th of July events for this year. Check them out and go have some fun on the 4th of July in San Antonio!
